Sometimes you can out run the rain

September 30, 1999

I'm glad this is the last day of September. October is my favorite month of the year, and for the next thirty-one days I have a list of things to do for my Halloween Party and many local activities planned for us to do as a family. A few things I already have planned is two plays being put on in our area, Hallowsream and Short Stories from Edgar Allen Poe, a trip to a haunted house and a visit to a local pumpkin patch.

Yesterday I went and had my hair done and while I was there Wild Child sprouted horns and became Demon Child. She screamed the entire three hours we were there. First she was upset when they were coloring my hair but I was able to calm her down and act like it was the funniest thing to do on the planet. However, when the lady finally started cutting my hair, Elizabeth screamed "NO" and tried to push the hairdresser away from me. Thankfully the hairdresser did a wonderful job and I am really happy with the color and cut. My head feels much lighter and I actually can style my hair after that bad cut I received in April.

On my way to pottery last night, I was trying to out run the rain. It was just begining to sprinkle when I got into my car to elave and I could see the dark clouds coming together over head. I was in our small car adn not the truck and I knew that if it began to pour I might not be able to get down my pottery teasher's dirt road. So I raced to her house, trying to out run the rain. I made it too! Within ten minutes the rain was coming down and my sister commented when she came in thrity minutes later how hard it was getting to class in the rain.

Pottery is going much better than I expected. I am getting better on the wheel and I am starting to do more hand building. This month I have been working on handbuilding a pumpkin to display on the buffet. My teacher is quite impressed at how wel lit tis turning out and how realisticly the shape of the peice resembles a pumpkin. Next week I will be adding the stem, leaves and vine and then hopefully it will be fired in the kiln. I hope to have it finished before my Halloween party so I can show it off.

Just a few more days until the wedding. I am taking it easy this week and not trying to stress myself out. When I spoke tot he bride yesterday she was pretty upset with her father and I can't say I blame her. He has been dating a woman for about a month now, she has never met and invited the lady to the wedding. The bride was not at all happy, and told her father that she really did not want thsi stranger to come. Her mother also died last year, and even though her father has been dating, he hasn't really dated anyone long term. She said she and her dad got in a huge fight with him telling he that if he could not bring this woman he would not even come to the ceremony. She told him this would be different if she knew the woman and if he had been dating her a little longer than a month. I am of the old school of thought, it's the bride and groom's day and they should say who, what, why and where. So this woman is coming to the wedding and the terrible thing is, she looks like the brides dead mother. The bride went and looked her up in the church directory and said they could be twins. Saturday is going to be a very interesting and emotional day I predict.

Today I sat down and did our budget for the month. The trip to visit Jeff's father set us back almost $500. We are going to have to touch our savings and I know Jeff is not going to be happy about that. I also figured out that our budget for the month is going to be really tight and that makes me nervous. I've spent the last several hours paying out bills, and figuring out a budget for the month, I also applied for a credit card. Something we don't usually do. I am afraid we will not get approved even thought it was a pre-approved card. From what I've found out many people do not want to extend credit to people who just purchased brand new homes or recently moved. I was hoping we could take a credit card to Disney with us, besides the American Express. The American Express Card is starting to become a thorn in our side. We always have to pay off each and every month and even though that gives us great credit, we often wish we could pay off large purchases over a few months rather than thirty days. In December I am going to start taking care of a baby and that will relieve some of my tension about the money. We really do not want to touch our savings, so we have to live real tight month to month right now. Thankfully most of my Christmas shopping is done and I will be  making some of the Christmas gifts at pottery class over the next few months.
